The farmers who deliver their coffee berries here have an average of 250 trees that they grow in their backyards on the surrounding hills. Although coffee is grown almost everywhere in Burundi, every smallholder gets a relatively small harvest, the average farmer has about 250 trees. On average, each farmer sells 200-300 kilos of coffee annually, which then becomes about 50 kilos of finished green coffee. This is really about small-scale farming. Traditionally, coffee has been washed in Burundi, but in recent years, coffee has begun to be dried in its berry, with successful results, and this complex micro-lot is no exception.
